Alliance Church

  • How did the Bible affect the way they lived?  How were they "Doers of the word?James 1:22-27
    Since its inception the Alliance Church of Stony Plain
    has provided opportunity to worship there every Sunday
    morning and to participate in Sunday evening services.
    The Sunday School has always provided classes at every
    age level and the mid-week prayer services have been
    open to all ages.
    Summer Bible Camps is an area in which the Stony
    Plain Alliance Church has been interested since the early
    forties. Successful Bible Camps were held at Whitewood
    Beach for twenty summers. Now Bible camps are being
    conducted at Nakamun Bible Camp and Stony Plain
    Alliance Church continues to be involved in the camp
    ministry.
    Being a denomination that stresses missions, home and
    foreign, a missionary conference is an annual event of the
    church. During this time opportunity is given to become
    acquainted with the missionaries and their work with
    provision made to personally become involved in the
    mission outreach.
  • How did their faith in God the almighty creator make a difference in their life?
    St. Oswald's Anglican Church once again came into
    being when Rev. John Rushton came from Onoway to
    hold services at the Catholic Church once a month. Rev.
    Rushton later moved to Stony Plain and held worship
    once a week. Services continue in the Catholic Church
    with Rev. J. Tiffen as minister.
    The old church building continues in its usefulness. It
    is a workshop for Paul Vanlmschoot who had it moved
    to Brightbank and uses it for his sculpture.

    The Alliance Church, a church of the Christian and
    Missionary Alliance began to work in Stony Plain in 1939
    under the leadership of Rev. Herb Hoeppner. The
    congregation met in the Town Hall until the first church
    on 53 Avenue was constructed. This was realized in
    December of 1940 when the edifice was dedicated as a
    place of worship.
    In 1961 this structure was sold and moved to Alberta
    Beach and the present sanctuary erected. The educational
    section was added in 1976.
