Holborn United Church

How did the Bible affect the way they lived? How were they "Doers of the word? James 1:22-27

Services were held in
the old Holborn School which was situated one mile
south of the existing school. The first minister, a student,
was Mr. Henry Hadden. J.E. Meisner, Sr. and Mr.
Forslund were the first stewards. Mr. Forslund also
served as Sunday School Superintendent.
Among the congregation in those early days were the
Forslunds (grandparents of Ralph Aronson), Reids
(grandparents of Beulah Burger), and the Meisner,

Burger, Williams, Davidson, Berry, Hood and Anderson
families.
Holborn was a very active point as the financial report
of 1907 indicated that Holborn contributed $61.00
whereas Stony Plain's contribution was only $5.05. At
that same meeting in 1907, a board of trustees for the
Holborn appointment was chosen to locate a cemetery
and build a church.

The Holborn W.A. was organized on April 4, 1945, by
Rev. A.W. Magee. Mrs. C.O. Burger was the first
president and Mrs. W. Hopkins, the first secretary. The
W.A. (later called the U.C.W.) was a very active
organization and was well known in the Stony Plain area
for its annual chicken supper.

How did their faith in God the almighty creator make a difference in their life?

What in their life showed their relationship with Jesus Christ?

A cemetery was never located and it was forty-four
years before the latter part of this ambition was realized,
when in 1951, a church building was purchased from the
Church of the Good Shepherd congregation in Stony
Plain. The building had originally been an Anglican
Church. It was sold to Holborn for $500.00 and moving
it, which took two days cost $1,000.00. The Church
building was placed across from the school on land
donated by Mrs. T. Jeans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.
Williams. Rev. J.C. Kay held the first services. The
church was dedicated on August 31, 1952, with Dr.
Villett officiating.

How did they show the "Fruits of the Spirit" see Gal. 5:22-23?

The history of the Holborn United Church goes back
to 1906 when Holborn was one of the first three points of
the Stony Plain Methodist Mission. Services were held in
the old Holborn School which was situated one mile
south of the existing school. The first minister, a student,

How did they show support for and receive strength from the church?

How did their belief in eternal life affect the way they lived and died.?

For each of the above questions ask what motivated the actions taken?
